Docksmith

Docksmith is an open-source macOS app for inspecting installed apps and organizing Home Screen icons on a connected Apple device. It also includes a read-only command-line probe.

This is an early preview. The app and its confirmation flows have been built and tested without performing live device changes; app removal and layout writes have not yet been verified on a phone.

Choose a device in the sidebar to see its apps and Home Screen. Search and select apps for removal, then review the exact selection and confirm. Move icons between the Dock, pages, and folders; review the draft before applying it. These actions change the selected device only after the in-app confirmation.

You need macOS 14 or later and Apple’s separately installed Apple Configurator command-line tool, cfgutil. Docksmith does not bundle or redistribute Apple Configurator or cfgutil. See installation and device connection.

Terminal window
swift build
swift run DocksmithApp

The app requires an explicit device choice. Connection diagnostics show USB presence separately from backend-reported transport (USB, Network or Unknown). Paired offline devices remain visible with access disabled. Wi-Fi device operations have not been verified.

The Home Screen editor works with icons and folders. It does not manage widgets or their positions. Layout edits require a complete, supported layout read; unsupported entries and partial reads disable Apply. App inventory can still display decoded entries with a partial-result warning. The CLI reference describes the separate read-only probe, and the roadmap tracks remaining work.
